O ki maya ki swapon chhaya, O ki chhalana 

Dhora ki pore o ruperi dore, 
Ganner e taane ki bandhibe ore 
Oje chirobiroher e sadhona 

Or bansite korun ki sur lage 
Birohomilonomilito raage 

Sukhe ki dukhe o pawa na-pawa, 
Hridoybone o udashi hawa, 
Bujhi sudhu o poromkamona 

ও কি এল, ও কি এল না, বোঝা গেল না
ও কি মায়া কি স্বপনছায়া, ও কি ছলনা ॥ 

ধরা কি পড়ে ও রূপেরই ডোরে, 
গানেরই তানে কি বাঁধিবে ওরে
ও যে চিরবিরহেরই সাধনা ॥ 

ওর বাঁশিতে করুণ কী সুর লাগে 
বিরহমিলনমিলিত রাগে। 

সুখে কি দুখে ও পাওয়া না-পাওয়া, 
হৃদয়বনে ও উদাসী হাওয়া, 
বুঝি শুধু ও পরমকামনা ॥

Translation

Did he come, or he didn't, couldn't reckon. 
Is he a fantasy or a dream image, Oh what an illusion! 

Can he be allured with beauty? 
Can he be seduced with melody? 
He is but a lifetime's devotion! 

On his lute raises a sad composition. 
The melody of eternal separation. 

In joys or in woes he is what I desire. 
As if in forests of heart some sad flow of air. 
He is but an eternal passion.
